Workshops
Zach has presented numerous clinics to students and educators. He has spoken about arts entrepreneurship, cultural exchange projects, creating a project driven career, brass pedagogy, and research interests including Armenian folk music. He regularly provides masterclasses on trumpet performance to university and high school studios. His popular clinics for educators have included “Beginning Trumpet Solutions,” “Guided Chamber Music Strategies,” “Advanced High Brass Techniques,” “Thriving in Title 1 or Rural Band Program,” “Tried and True Technologies in the Band Room,” and “Achieving Brass Resonance on the Podium.” In 2021, he presented a clinic for the International Trumpet Guild entitled: “A Grounded Routine: Strategies to Promote Consistency.” Please contact Zach for more information on these workshops or to book him as a guest.
Mountain West Trumpet Project
A champion for new music, Zach has commissioned numerous works for trumpet and piano by contemporary composers. He actively collaborates with composers throughout the Mountain West bringing their work to the stage. These commissions are intended to add accessible works to the existing repertoire for undergraduate-level students. A professional recording will be produced featuring composers from the region upon completion of each commission. As of 2022, new works have been commissioned by Dr. Lynn Petersen (Montana), Dr. Anne Guzzo (Wyoming), Dr. Ruby Fulton (Idaho), and Dr. James M. David (Colorado). Please contact Zach if you are a composer in the region with interest in this project.
Palisade Trumpet Collective
Palisade Trumpet Collective was founded in 2021 to engage audiences through the exploration and evolution of music for trumpet ensemble. Each member of the ensemble is a distinguished performer, professor, and pedagogue from universities across the United States. Education is a staple of Palisade’s creative vocation, and it is our goal to reach new audiences with the power and beauty of the trumpet. Palisade Trumpet Collective is fluent across multiple genres and periods, and comfortable in many performance platforms. Arrangements of non-traditional brass repertoire, and commissions of New Music for trumpet ensemble are bedrock goals for the Palisade Trumpet Collective.
The Palisade Trumpet Collective’s debut album, Sojourn, will be released in early 2024 on the Mark Records label. The album includes new commissions by Catherine McMichael and Jasmine Pigott, and several other never before recorded works for trumpet ensemble.
